Minor Planet Research, Inc. (MPR) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to the search for, and physical studies of, asteroids and comets, particularly Near Earth Objects (NEOs). NEOs are asteroids or comets that pose a potential collision hazard with Earth by virtue of their mass, velocity, and orbital paths through space.
Our mission is threefold:
- To assist in the accurate orbital determination of new NEO discoveries
by making precision astrometric observations over significant portions
of their orbits.
- To promote a better understanding of the risk that NEOs pose
to the global community through a comprehensive public education
program.
- To search for new NEOs that could represent an impact hazard
to the current and future survival of life on Earth.
